Flora Aura Pinhole Portraits + Live Coffee Developing

Adorn your self in a floral headpiece, settle in for a long exposure and let your image be revealed by the magick of coffee!

Each participant will have one photo taken using a pinhole camera and will participate in the development of their photo once the exposure has been captured. All images are taken on 4×5 direct positive silver gelatin paper and will be alternatively processed, using a coffee-based solution to develop the photo. You can think of these photos as an “instant” dark room print!

A pinhole camera is a simple camera that doesn’t use a lens but rather a tiny hole (pinhole) to focus light and create an image in a light proof box. Pinhole photos require longer exposure times to allow for sufficient light to enter the camera. For these portraits, you can expect to pose in stillness anywhere from 30 seconds to 3 minutes. Theses exposure times depend on the amount of sunlight present — the sunnier it is, the faster the exposure. Long exposures capture the subtle movement of our stillness, creating images that can appear quite ethereal and evoke a sense of liminality. This is a form of slow photography that asks us to sit with ourselves, and be open to how the image will be captured and revealed.
