3D Printed Ceramics with Timea Tihany

Please join us for the Pioneer Square First Thursday Art Walk on February 6th where we are extremely excited to showcase the work of artist Timea Tihanyi @sliprabbitstudio. Not only will her sculpture be on display, but we will also feature a live demonstration of ceramic 3D printing as well as an interactive VR exhibit designed by Tihanyi. You don’t want to miss this one!

Timea Tihanyi’s work probes the intersections of technology, tactility, and embodied forms of knowledge production. An interdisciplinary artists, ceramicist, and a former neuroscientist, Tihanyi is fascinated by the mind’s systematic pattern-finding and sense-making ability. Through the use ceramic 3D printing, she has been exploring this human capacity of abstraction in dialogue with the physicality of materials.
Digital technology in ceramics provides both tools and challenges for reassessing
the past of the craft while anticipating its future.

Tihanyi experiments with every aspect of the 3D printing process, from code to machine and to the material quality of clay.
She frequently collaborates with various art, design, architecture and STEM fields on wide-ranging interdisciplinary projects from mathematical models of living systems, haptics of IoT data, Virtual Reality, and performative aspects of the body-machine relationship.

She says: “it is important for me to put clay in the center of my play with technology, because slippages and flaws record the
process of materiality and the subjectivity of each moment. My work is grounded in the
experience of touch while exploring personal, material, labor and craft histories.”

Tihanyi’s current work is a generative and participatory VR space, which will be presented during the First Thursday event.
