“A World Preserved”: Art by Joe Axler & Twyla Sampaco

Parlour Pioneer Square presents “A World Preserved”, opening on September 4th from 5-9pm during Pioneer Square Art Walk. In “A World Preserved”, artists Joe Axler and Twyla Sampaco bargain with ghosts and assert immortality, relying on their respective art forms of multimedia painting and color film photography to deny endings and remap lost causes. Axler recolors the morbid, painting and embellishing real animal skulls to bring new life to the long dead. Sampaco’s photography romanticizes her trauma recovery 35mm film diary, transforming the work of coping into cinematic vignettes that hint at – and manifest – a hopeful ending.
