Artist Statement
My art is an extension of myself, my feelings, my experiences, my voice. I use my art to show my love, my anger, my life experience, and my cultural heritage. I always try to convey messages and a strong narrative in my work. Though not always obvious or loud, the message is clear to me. I leave a piece of myself in all of my work, my work is very personal to me. I try to capture myself in all my aspects including my mixed heritage and upbringing.
Artist Bio
Felicia Bryan, enrolled Chinook, born 1998 has always had a passion for art. Raised in a family surrounded by artists on all sides, art was cultivated and supported. From music to writing to drawing, art was always being made, creativity always flowing. Through tough childhood experiences and struggle, Felicia has managed to continue making art an important part of their life, using various media to express visual storytelling. Using oil, beadwork, Block printing, and more to tell stories of pain, emotion and life. Their work straddles modern contemporary work and contemporary coast Salish art work to express the bridge between their mixed heritage. Their work has strong emotional ties to their childhood as well as their deeply held political opinions, stemming from years of civil rights and cultural studies. Using their art as a voice to speak for those who can’t is an important inspiration for them.
