GO’C welcomes Seattle-based artist Ben Beres for the third and final exhibition in its 2026 First Thursday series, bringing this year’s cycle of artists in GO’C to a close.
For more than two decades, Beres has used printmaking as a space for accumulation, discovery, and play. Working primarily through copper plate etching, he builds intricate compositions from fragments of images, language, symbols, and marks, layering seemingly disparate elements until they begin to form new relationships. A shark beside a peanut, a number beside a spider; words dissolve into pattern, images give way to texture, and meaning remains deliberately open.
There is a deeply tactile quality to Beres’ process. Hours of drawing and layering culminate in the reveal of the printed image, where the plate becomes a record of the gestures, ideas, and associations gathered along the way. His practice has expanded into the experimental processes of vitreography and etching on glass, as well as performance and public engagement, continually testing the boundaries between image, material, and making.
Join us for the opening reception on September 3rd from 5–8PM during the Pioneer Square First Thursday Art Walk. Our GO’C office in the historic Schwabacher Building at 89 Yesler Way will be open to the public to experience Beres’ work and celebrate the final exhibition of the series, and the ongoing conversation between art, architecture, and the creative processes that connect them.
