84 Yesler
Step into a living memory at 84 Yesler. We are honored to host a special exhibition showcasing the handmade works of Kichitaro Sakuma (1874–1955) — grandfather of 84 Yesler owner, Katsuko Takahashi. Practicing art as a personal passion during the Meiji era, Sakuma’s pieces reflect not only artistic skill but the quiet discipline of daily practice. You’ll find delicate brushwork on traditional Washi paper; in some works, small scraps were carefully joined to create larger surfaces, a testament to how valuable paper was at the time.
This intimate collection includes: Original drawings and calligraphy His personal art practice book Traditional Japanese stamps with handwritten characters His art brushes, personal bag, tabako pouch, and paper weights all preserved and passed down through generations Each item offers a quiet glimpse into a life lived with intention, creativity, and heritage. To celebrate this rare exhibition, 84 Yesler will offer a special, limited-time menu inspired by the spirit and aesthetics of Japanese art. Some dishes will be created exclusively for this event and not available at any other time, blending culinary creativity with cultural reverence. Join us for an evening where heritage, craftsmanship, and cuisine come together in harmony.
