Welcome to the Original Seattle Neighborhood – rich in history, arts, culture, and food!
The Pacific Northwest has inspired Laura Hamjeās oil painting since 2004. She began her career painting bridges, highways, and industrial landscapes, often from the vantage point of a fast-moving vehicle. More recently, Hamje has focused on slow, ethereal moments induced by a deep immersion in Pacific Northwest forests and coastlines. Regardless of subject, Hamje paints with seemingly feverish strokes that are completely abstract up close but evoke her chosen subjects loud and clear from a few steps removed.
Hamje received her BFA from the Uiniversity of Washington and has exhibited in Seattle, Astoria, Los Angeles, and New York City. Her work is included in the corporate collections of Perkins Coie, Weyerhaeuser, and F5 Networks. This is her 2nd solo exhibition at Chatwin Arts. Chatwin Arts published a book on Hamje (Across the Water & Into the Forest: Paintings by Laura Hamje, Occidental Square Books. 2023), which is available at the gallery and through chatwinbooks.com.
