AGallery presents Pacific Northwest artist Jamie Curtismith in a bold exhibition of mixed
media maximalism. Known for her immersive and tactile works, Curtismith transforms
repurposed stitched canvases into illuminated compositions she calls Canvas Skins.
Working at the intersection of fine art, craft, and social critique, Curtismith tears, cuts,
stitches, and reconstructs fragments of her own archived paintings into dense
patchworked surfaces. Oils, acrylics, watercolor, inks, graphite, aerosols, fibers,
beadwork, and found materials converge in layered compositions that shift under
changing light. Many works illuminate under black light and reveal dimensional depth
through 3D Chromadepth viewing, inviting active engagement rather than passive
observation. Jamie encourages views to touch her art.
Curtismith’s practice expands beyond the traditional canvas. Her modular installations,
sculptural works, and architectural interventions collapse boundaries between art object,
environment, and use. Rooted in material experimentation and reuse, the work
embraces imperfection, memory, and intergenerational making while challenging
distinctions between art and craft. With a background in aeronautical engineering and
an MBA, Curtismith brings technical rigor and conceptual structure to an exuberant
visual language.
