Welcome to the Original Seattle Neighborhood – rich in history, arts, culture, and food!
Moses Sun’s work is a powerful exploration of blackness, expressed through diverse media. His art lays bare his history and humanity, using drawings, digital and analog photography, sculptures, and installations as the foundation. He then “grinds” these elements, in the spirit of hip-hop, into relief sculptures, digital prints, video animations, games, and social media apps. Working intuitively, Sun allows his story to guide the viewer into a narrative with a clear entry point but no defined end.
Rejecting the influence of the European diaspora that once shaped his mind and art, Sun draws strength from African, Black, Latino, and Asian diasporas. These cultures have embraced him, offering resilience where Whiteness has been taken and discarded. His work resonates with this acceptance and defiance, challenging viewers to see beyond the surface and engage with the deeper truths of his experience.
