Seattle In-Sights

“Seattle In-Sights,” curated by Dale Cotton, focuses on Seattle’s urban identity (buildings,
places, parks, waterways, people). The city environment is often overlooked due to the beauty
that surrounds it. Yet Seattleites continue to value their city despite rampant population growth
and construction seemingly on every corner. “Seattle In-Sights” includes paintings of local
scenes by Keven Furiya, such as the Jackson Street train tunnel, and a look across SODO
from above, along with Dan Hawkins’ photographs of old boats parked under highway ramps,
and abandoned commercial interiors. Painter Laura Hamje revisits scenes opened up when
the Alaskan Way Viaduct was torn down, including distant views of the new waterfront. As part
of the Duwamish Residency Program, painter Juliet Shen uses iconic references in her work
on the three rivers that once fl owed into the Duwamish.
