Welcome to the Original Seattle Neighborhood – rich in history, arts, culture, and food!
The King Street Station restoration project to this 1906 building will help revive the century-old station’s historic character and identity. It is one of several projects to receive federal funding as part of a statewide push to enhance high-speed rail transportation. Preservation efforts include a facility upgrade to meet present and future needs for rail and transit passenger travel – with goals to enhance passenger safety and security, encourage economic development, and promote sustainable design. Planned improvements have involved replacing the existing roof with the original terra cotta tile roof, restoring the original ornate ceiling of the lobby, creating a public plaza at the Jackson Street entrance, and completing building seismic upgrades, among other initiatives.
